Based out of the flagship 3PL warehouse in Northampton, the storage, fulfilment and distribution services offered by Pall-Ex Logistics have transformed operations for many businesses by providing a complete logistics solution designed to suit every industry.

We spoke to our warehousing expert, Jordan Hodgson, as he explains how the 3PL division of the business works and shares his insights into how the industry is changing.

1.      What are your key responsibilities at Pall-Ex Logistics?

My main responsibilities involve managing the warehouse in Northampton, nurturing current customers and growing business for the 3PL division. I also support developing NexusWMS and ensuring the overall success of the Pall-Ex Logistics 3PL offering.

2.      What do you enjoy most about working in the warehouse and logistics industry?

One of the best things about working in the logistics industry is that every day is different. There are so many opportunities to keep developing my skills in all areas of the business, and I am learning new things every day.

It’s a really exciting time to be part of the business as it continues to grow, and the further it expands, the more we will be able to support our current members and customers.

3.      What sets Pall-Ex Logistics apart from other logistics companies?

The Pall-Ex Logistics Storage and Fulfilment Network is a first-to-market solution that we have overlayed onto our already successful distribution model. The key links to the Pall-Ex central hub and the fantastic levels of customer care we provide means that we are set up to meet all of our customers’ requirements with ease.

Another important element that sets us apart from competitors is our innovative technology. With our WMS and TMS developed in-house, they integrate with our existing systems, MyNexus, NexusETA and NexusGo, enabling customers to manage inventory, track pallet spaces and book consignments directly in one platform.

4.      What are some of the problems that the Pall-Ex Logistics 3PL Network set out to solve?

Our main goal at Pall-Ex Logistics is to be able to give customers cost-effective storage solutions wherever they are based in the country, supported by complete visibility from the beginning of the storage journey through to distribution. This is achieved through a combination of reduced rates for storing and distributing with Pall-Ex Logistics, the introduction of NexusWMS and the knowledge and expertise our warehouse team can provide.

5.      What type of customers/industries benefit the most from the 3PL services offered by Pall-Ex Logistics?

Although it may sound cliché, the 3PL services we offer really can benefit everyone. We can support every industry that has the need to store and distribute products, whether that’s packaging, food products, tiles, building suppliers or anyone in between.

The businesses that are working with Pall-Ex Logistics are benefitting from cost savings by storing and distributing their freight with one provider. Anything that is already being distributed through the network has the opportunity to benefit massively by also storing freight with us.

Regardless of what your requirements might be, we have the facilities and technology available to support with all of your storage, fulfilment and distribution needs.

6.      Out of all of the services that Pall-Ex Logistics offers customers, which one do you think is the most unique?

By far, the most unique service that we provide is our 3PL offering. With 120 member locations across the UK, we have scalable coverage of the country, which creates opportunities for clients in all industries who require 3PL services.

Having the ability to pull off picks later in the day for same-day, localised distribution is a service that is rare for the industry and shows our commitment to delivering the best possible offering to every customer.

7.      What developments do you see for the warehousing industry in the coming years?

I think the key change that will be seen across the industry in the near future is an increase in efficiency through automation and system development. This is already being seen with the evolution of WMS platforms and the integration of AI, and it is just going to continue to advance.

I also think we will see an increase in distribution companies expanding their services to include warehousing, just as we have at Pall-Ex Logistics. With the logistics industry facing significant challenges over the last few years, being able to adapt and grow is essential.
