In our latest staff spotlight feature, we talk to Dan Passmore, Distribution Manager at Pall-Ex Logistics (Northampton) as he shares an insight into his journey within the logistics industry and what being a part of #teamplx means to him.

What is your role at Pall-Ex Logistics and what are your key responsibilities?
I work as a Distribution Manager at Pall-Ex Logistics in Northampton, where my main responsibilities involve ensuring that all vehicles are compliant and well-maintained. I also oversee the warehousing and transport planning operations for the depot.
How did you get into the logistics industry?
I originally started as a scan shed operative working on the night shift. I progressed from there to become an FLT Driver and was fortunate to gain experience in a variety of other roles over the years.
Throughout my career, I have worked as a Quality Controller, Depot Planner and now as a Distribution Manager, where I am also studying to gain my Transport Manager CPC qualification.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced since joining the team?
During some of the busier times of the year, we’ve had to provide support to additional areas as the network handles increased freight volumes.
I’m proud that we can take this onboard and support the wider Pall-Ex network, however, I will admit that it can be challenging to ensure that everything is loaded and dispatched on time, but that only makes it more rewarding.
What sets Pall-Ex Logistics apart from other logistics companies?
For me, I think the level of engagement with the staff is what really sets Pall-Ex Logistics apart. It’s an environment where you feel encouraged and supported to follow your career aspirations and learn new skills.
There are several training opportunities and support programs such as Op-Ex, LEAP and CPC Academy to support staff and their personal growth, which is something that I feel is rare to see in the logistics industry.
What does a great day at work look like for you?
That’s an easy one, early trunks and no defects!
What has been your most memorable moment at Pall-Ex Logistics so far?
Receiving our first diamond excellence certificate was a very special moment.
The Diamond Excellence Awards represent the best-performing depots throughout the Pall-Ex network, so to have the team’s hard work and dedication recognised with this award was a fantastic thing to be a part of.
What is the most unusual freight you have seen transported?
I’ve seen lots come and go through the network over the years, but one that particularly stands out was a full-sized car sitting on a pallet in the middle of the warehouse, which was an unusual sight for sure.
Another one that comes to mind was when we transported a pallet full of Bees. The delivery required extra care and special precautions to ensure everything went smoothly and safely.
